Handsome win for Ramsbottom not enough to qualify for quarter finals
Ramsbottom 1st XI beat Greenmount 1st XI by 8 wickets – 24 June 2022
Scorecard is here
In front of an excellent Friday night crowd, Greenmount won the toss and batted first on a good looking strip. Greenmount started well, especially their pro Hughes who hit one huge six into the mill off the back foot. Captain Kieran alternated his seven bowlers and it was Dan Pyke who got the vital wicket of the pro for a collection dodging 48 off 33 balls. The scoring rate dropped as wickets fell at a regular intervals including an excellent run out by Brad Fielding of his former Lancashire colleague Tom Heaton, and an even better catch from the same fielder. Other excellent catches were taken by Kieran, Josh Dentith and the diving Dale Gabriel. Greenmount finished on 164 for 7 which felt very chaseable.
Dan Pyke’s two wickets took him above Chris Round in the Ramsbottom T20 all time wicket taking list with only S Joshi, D Gabriel, D Smit and Jon Fielding above him.
The Ramsbottom openers Kieran and Brad Fielding set off the run chase in their normal aggressive fashion taking an early liking to Hunter’s left arm seam. It was a surprise to everyone when Brad missed a straight one and was bowled for 29 off 18. Jake Walker made the most of his promotion to three with a quickfire 25 off 13 balls including a huge six into the river. On his dismissal pro Sen came out to join Kieran with the score at 75. The Ramsbottom pair batted sensibly to bring Ramsbottom home with 4 overs to spare. Kieran finishing with an excellent 72 off 40 balls and Sen 36 off 27. With Norden’s last over win over Crompton, Ramsbottom were, however, knocked out.
With some excellent entertainment from young Will Edgar, it was great to see so many players and supporters from both clubs enjoying the post match hospitality.
