Brad Fielding’s Impressive Knock Helps Ramsbottom beat Local Neighbours

Ramsbottom 1st XI beat Rawstenstall 1st XI by 7 wickets – June 17th 2022

Scorecard is here

On Friday night the Ramsbottom T20 team travelled the short distance up the A56 to play local rivals Rawtenstall. Both teams knew that the loser was out of the 2022 competition. The match was dedicated to the memory of former Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom player Dylan Walsh. The fine weather brought a healthy crowd buoyed by a good following from Ramsbottom including many straight from the Ascot event at the club.

Captain Kieren won the toss and put Rawtenstall into bat on a side wicket very close to the terrace.  Kieren soon took the early wicket of the Rawtenstall pro and even with the short boundary the Ramsbottom bowlers kept the scoring rate down, helped by some good ground fielding. Wickets fell at regular intervals aided by some excellent catching including three for Brad Fielding. Rawtenstall finished on 160 for 9 after the 20 overs with three wickets for Sen and the returning  Owen Collinge; 2 wickets also for Kieren and one run out. The run total felt light.

The Ramsbottom openers Kieren and Brad Fielding started off  with their usual intent scoring at well above the required rate. The first wicket fell at 90 when Kieren was out for 54 off 32 balls. His score included 6 sixes including one caught in the crowd by his brother. Sen and Harry Caton were dismissed cheaply but Brad continued his onslaught and the 160 was reached with 2 overs to spare. Brad ended not out on 84 off 56 balls. The other scores in the group did not go for Ramsbottom but they could still qualify on net run rate  with a big win against Greenmount provided Crompton also win at Norden.
