Harry’s Efforts in Vain

The Rams slipped to a disappointing defeat against a Clitheroe side who exploited the conditions far better than we did

Winning the toss the opposition put us into bat without any hesitation. It soon became apparent there was a bit of something in the wicket for the spinners and what has been a major problem for us this season soon unfolded as we lost early wickets.

At 12 for 3 our pro Bilal joined Harry at the wicket and the pair set about repairing the damage. They took the score to 47 before Bilal fell to what looked a decent delivery. With the amateur spinners getting plenty out of the wicket runs were at a premium but Harry and Seb dug in to take the score to 71 before the later fell in strange circumstances. Having survived an lbw appeal Seb must have left his crease only for the slip fielder to have thrown his wicket down and be adjudged run out.

The usual middle order collapse followed and it was left to Josh to give Harry much needed support. He stuck in while Harry posted an excellent 62 not out, consisting of four 4s and a six.

The score of 125 all out was at least 40 short of a challenging target but having seen how much the Clitheroe spinners got out of the track I thought we had a decent outside chance. However despite taking the early wicket of Ross we bowled too many “hit me” deliveries and runs came quickly. We did manage to reduce Clitheroe to 71 for 4 but the reliable Jack Dewhurst and Stuart Lemon decided to play Bilal out and score off our amateurs. The pair took the score to 115 off 36 overs before the heavens opened and finished well in front of the Duckworth Lewis target.
