Maiden second team ton for Mikey helps Rammy to a big win at Bacup
The seconds headed up to Bacup hoping to keep up the momentum from 3 successive victories. The team showed four changes with Ben Parkinson, Jason Pyke, Toby Ashworth and Matty Birdy replacing Ed Lee, Isaac Turner, Lewie Pearson and Jack Hinchliffe. On an almost mild but windy day in Bacup , captain Dentith lost the toss again and Ramsbottom were put into bat. A Bacup fielder near to us explained the decision by stating his teams bowling attack was poor but the batting was worse. He was proved right on both fronts.
After the minutes silence for local legend David Thompson, the regular opening pair of Mano and Nick Round strode to the wicket. After the usual attacking start both openers were dismissed on 36 after 7 overs which brought Jason Pyke and Mikey Howarth to the wicket. The pair consolidated the position and then accelerated the scoring helped by some indifferent bowling. Jason reached his 50 first and it was a surprise when he was dismissed shortly afterwards. At 134 for 3 this brought the in form Brad Wilson to join Mikey Howarth.

Brad continued the attack against the demoralized Bacup attack . Mikey reached his 50 and started accelerating towards his 100 finally getting his maiden second team ton with two overs left. The pair shared a partnership of 170 at over a run a ball. Both were dismissed in the last over for 100 and 73 respectively which enabled a very brief comical cameo from Ben Parkinson.
The Bacup innings started with rain in the air. The returning Matt Birdy sharing the new ball with Mano. Wickets soon tumbled from Mano’s end, especially from his slower delivery and aided by some excellent catching including Jason’s one handed dive. The returning Matt Birdy was still rusty but claimed two wickets from his end before being replaced by Toby Ashworth. Mano continued his spell and finished with the excellent figures of 6 for 31. Toby took the last two wickets including an excellent catch by Nick Round to leave Bacup all out on 74 and Rammy winning by 243 runs.
RCC Man of the match – Lots of candidates this week including 50’s from Jason and Brad, 2 wickets for Toby, excellent catches by Jason and Nick , 6 wickets for Mano but my man of the match goes to Mikey for his maiden second team ton.
