2nd Team’s Poor Run Continues
RCC 99 all out (35.1 overs) BCC 102 for 2 (14.4 overs)
Scorecard here
It feels a long time since we celebrated a 2nd team win and a quick check on scorecards shows it was back in early July. The team’s depth has been tested since and we have had to field a lot of younger players – back in July the game was won by the wickets taken by Birdy and Chris Round, both of whom were in the 1st team at the weekend.
In comparison the Burnley 2nd team at weekend featured Graham Lalor who has over 300 1st team Cup & League wickets and Steve Brunt with over 300 1st team matches under his belt.
We can only hope that the experience being picked up now will pay back its dividends in the future seasons.

We won the toss and elected to bat first. We made a decent start with Brad and Ryan making it to the 20s without too many scares. But after Bard was dismissed by Lalor with the score on 27 we had a succession of wickets falling like a metronome thereafter. Ed Lee, Ryan and Sam all had starts but fell in the teens. A late flurry of runs from Lewie Pearson managed to get us to 99 before we were all out. Lalor ending up with 4 for 32.

We all knew that unless we took some quick wickets we could expect an early and disappointing end to the match. However runs came far too quickly and despite an early wicket for Tom Ireland it was only a matter of when not would Burnley win. Ali Syed made an excellent 43 in Burnley’s win which came in the 15th over.
So just 3 league matches to go and hopefully a couple of wins to finish the season on a high.
