Scorecard here

The 2nd team travelled to Clitheroe for their league match. It was a day when the cricket and the result paled into insignificance. Events off the field truly put things into perspective.

The day had gone as normal with Clitheroe winning the toss and asking us to bat first. Despite a shaky start when we found ourselves at 8 for 2 an excellent innings by Jason Pyke (74) supported initially by veteran and stand in skipper Michael Howarth (18) and then by Sam Price (23 not out) had put us on 137 for 5 with 7 overs to go.

Ryan Storey had been the last man out and had just walked back to the changing rooms when the day took a turn for the worse. Calls for help were heard from the dressing room. Ryan had collapsed and hit his head on the concrete floor.  The initial untrained attempts at first aid had been limited and the situation looked grim. Luckily for Ryan and for us all help quickly arrived from the supporters at the match. How important that a trained first aider was there and reacted quickly cannot be underestimated. That treatment was essential whilst the first responder was on route, followed later by the ambulance. It’s not appropriate to share too much detail but without that skilled first aid help the circumstances could have so much more grave.

Ryan, his family and all at Ramsbottom Cricket Club are so thankful to Joanne Elms and Laura Dinsdale for all that they did last Sunday to help and treat Ryan. We hope that they are around on Friday at the T20 match when I am sure people will want to thank them in person. We also have to thank the Clitheroe team for their patience and understanding as the day unfolded.

Back on the field our 2nd team were out batted, bowled and fielded in a well deserved Clitheroe victory. Hopefully the injury Harry Lang suffered whilst batting is not too serious.
