On Saturday 10 July fifth place Ramsbottom seconds entertained eight placed Crompton seconds at Acre Bottom. The home team had defeated Crompton by 3 wickets in the earlier season return match at Glebe Street . A corona virus isolated depleted Ramsbottom contained three 14 year olds making their debuts Toby Anderson, Max Myers and Imogen Young. Wicketkeeper Imogen became the first women to play for Ramsbottom seconds.
Stand in captain Sam Price lost the toss and Ramsbottom were put into bat on a damp but drying wicket. Sam opened the batting with Nick Round. The right hand/left handed pair battled through some difficult conditions, ran well and soon saw off the Crompton opening bowlers. The pair accelerated their scoring with Sam hitting some legside lusty blows whilst Nick drove well on both sides of the wicket.

Both Nick and Sam made their fifties in consecutive balls in the 25th over before they fell in short order. At 123 for 2 with over 15 left and despite the long tail, the locals were looking for a score of 200. Tight bowling by the Crompton spinners tied down the Ramsbottom batters and despite an aggressive 24 from Brad Wilson, Ramsbottom ended at 175 all out with 4 overs left.
Ramsbottom opened their bowling with the returning Ryan Storey and Matt Burdaky. Chasing 4 an over the Crompton openers made a steady start and looked to increase the scoring as dark clouds threatened. After 24 overs the rain started and the players left the pitch with Crompton 86 for 4 including two excellent catches by Tom Ireland and Nick Round, just behind the Duckworth Lewis par score.

After the rain break Crompton were set 59 off 11 overs. The Ramsbottom spinners Chris Round and Brad Wilson bowled tightly for these last few overs and took wickets at regular intervals including an excellent catch by Ryan Storey. At the end Crompton were short by 20 runs having lost 8 wickets. These wickets were shared by Matt Burdaky (3 for 44), Chris Round (3 for 14), Brad Wilson (1 for 32) and Ryan Storey ( 1 for 26). Special praise to Imogen Young with only 6 byes.
