Rammy Well Beaten at Norden
On Saturday 18 June 2022, third placed Ramsbottom Seconds travelled to Norden who were 4th in the league table. On a dry day, captain Dentith actually won the toss for only the third time this season and elected to bat. Ramsbottom showed three changes from the previous week’s win against Walsden with Dale Gabriel, Brad Fielding and Jack Hinchcliffe replacing Chris Round, Alex Olpin and Toby Ashworth. After the early loss of Nick Round, Ben ‘Tom’ Parkinson and Mikey Howarth batted aggressively scoring at over 6 runs an over, helped by lots of extras. It was a surprise when both were dismissed when well set and whilst the scoring rate continued to be high three other wickets soon fell to leave Ramsbottom on 136 for 6 with loads of overs left. Dale and Ryan Story knuckled down and put on 60 runs. Mark Dentith batted well at 10 but Ramsbottom were all out for 228 on the final ball of the innings. With seven batters dismissed whilst on 17 or above, 260/270 should have been the final score.

Mano took an early wicket in the Norden response which brought the league’s top run scorer Kabir Ahmed to the wicket who survived an early stumping chance. Alongside the left handed Bebb, the two Norden players batted really well, defending resolutely and putting away any bad balls. They were soon ahead of the rate. Both players soon reached 50, offering not a chance to the Ramsbottom fielders. At 73 runs, Ahmed was bowled by Ryan Storey who also beat the bat on several occasions. The new batter scored at one a ball and Norden passed the Ramsbottom total with 5 overs to spare with the loss of only 2 wickets, Bebb finishing on 89 not out.
With other results going their way, Ramsbottom drop down to fourth but are still in touch at the top, with fifth place Hassy to play next.
Not as many candidates for man of the match as usual but I will include Ben Parkinson’s 36 . However my man of the match goes to Ryan Storey for his 33 runs, one wicket and excellent ground fielding
