Ahead of the 2019 Season Andy Dalby, RCC Director of Cricket chatted to our latest pro-signing George Linde
Firstly welcome to RCC, you follow in the footsteps of a number of distinguished South African cricketers over the last few years to have worn the baggy green. Have you spoken to any of the other guys about Rammy?
I went through some history of the club and I saw a lot of big names that played for RCC, so I am a bit nervous but also looking forward to it. I spoke to Pieter Malan and Werner Coetzee about the club and everything they say is positive – so I am very excited to join up now.
On a personal note – how has your season been back in SA?
My season at home is going well. I just have to try and finish strong now. I can then come over with confidence for when I play my first game for RCC.
How did you first become aware of Rammy’s interest in signing you for the 2019 season?
I think it was around November when I first heard RCC were interested. I was immediately keen due to the fact that when I played for Darwen a few years ago I had heard only good things about the club.
What experiences have you previously had over here in the UK?
This will be my seventh season in the UK. I have previously played for: Grimsby Town, Lytham, Middleton, Darwen, Biddestone (2 seasons) and now Ramsbottom.
As a genuine All-rounder – What part of your game do you feel is your strongest?
Probably my bowling IS my strongest part of my game however my batting has improved and I have been putting in a lot of hard work with the bat, so I feel it is pretty even at the moment. If I have a bad day with the ball then I have another chance to at least try and win the game with the bat and visa-versa.
What are you looking to achieve this summer at Acre Bottom?
I am hoping to be a consistent performer with both bat and ball and hopefully win a trophy with the boys. This will take a team effort.
Looking at your strike rate back home, is it safe to say you like to go hard with the bat?
It’s not going hard early – but if I fancy a bowler I will try and take them on. I look to score all the time.
Best game you ever played in?
There are three games that stand out for me. The first is when I took six wickets in a one day game against the Warriors last season. The other two games I contributed with the bat, both against the Titans and both when the odds were against us. I managed to score a few in both games and was there to score the winning runs.
Best bowler you have faced?
Kagiso Rabada is the best I have faced.
Best batsman you have taken the wicket of?
Dwayne Bravo is the number one. (If the nets count as wickets – then its Kieron Pollard for sure.)
Favourite meal?
Probably a braai, but I also love an Indian.
Favourite drink?
Beer after a game but I currently enjoy a Gin. However in the week – I only drink water!
Football team you support?
Manchester United for sure.
What are your expectations of The Lancashire League this season?
Strong and competitive.
