JUNIOR ROUND UP – 16 July 2022
U18s v Walsden (A) – “Boundary Fest at Scott St”
Our U18s made a valiant attempt to chase down 159 – 4 off 20 overs but fell 26 runs short.
In line with the brave new English approach, Oli had backed ourselves to chase anything down and put Walsden into bat on a wicket close to river side. We bowled well and fielded brilliantly, especially Lucas B-L (worldie 4-saving dive) Freddie and Mahdi (great catch) from U13s and Sonny saving 10 runs alone from 3 amazing stops.
On his post A Level debut for U18s Seb (29, 7 x 4s) took up the chase with Ali (20) and we scored quickly. Toby Ash played smartly getting 30* at a run a ball but the innings of the day came from Lewie (43 off 24 balls, 4x4s & 3x6s).
Walsden were getting worried as we took down some good bowling but a couple of good boundary catches in the final overs sealed our fate.

U18s v Greenmount (A) – “Rammy Bowlers blow the neighbours away!”
Toby Ashworth 4-1-5-2
Toby Anderson 4-0-21-2
Seb 2-0-2-1
Oli 3-1-3-3
Ali 1.4-0-2-1
Worldie catch from Jack at short mid off. Direct hit from Oli at mid-off to bring the 5th wicket.
At the interval, Captain Seb agreed to change up the batting order to give some players a chance. Rammy knocked off the runs steadily with 10 overs to spare for an 8 wicket win. An all round complete performance. We take that into our 3rd game of the week tomorrow v Walsden.

U18s v Walsden U18s (H) – “Rammy victorious in last ball thriller”
Rammy won the toss and decide to bat on another great track at Acre Bottom.
As expected the Walsden bowling was tight and our openers waited patiently for anything loose to score off. With the score on 48 Maeve (14) fell to a good catch but Seb pushed on to his half century (53* off 38 balls, 9x4s and 2x6s). Ali batted brilliantly to reach 42* off 25 (7x4s) with another power innings from Lewie (30 off 20 balls 3x4s 2x6s). We set Walsden a tough target of 151 to win.
Walsden started quickly scoring at 8 an over but Abby, Seb and Lewie clinched early wickets to have the visitors looking to their middle order to keep the pace up. With 6 overs to go Walsden needed 43 to win and a couple of boundary strikes brought the run rate down to 1 a ball with 3 overs to go.
But some brave bowling from Lewie (19th over) and Oli (18th & 20th overs) kept the pressure on their batsmen ending in them needing 4 off the last ball to tie and 6 to win. Walsden’s Logan G connected sweetly and sent it skyward towards the river, with everyone holding their breath Seb took a nervy boundary catch to clinch the game.
Brilliant game of cricket on a great evening at Acre Bottom. Even the wedding guests in the function room were cheering the Rammy win.
