JUNIOR ROUND UP – 2 August 2022
U18s v Rochdale (A)
Seb won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch which had seen some rain.
Our openers Seb & Ali made a decent start going at a run a ball for the first few overs. Rochdale’s bowling was tight and when Seb fell LBW to the Rochdale Captain’s left arm orthodox spin, our batters struggled to get going.
At one point our run rate was heading for a score of 100 which felt below par. However when the 3rd wicket fell, Lewie walked in and our fortunes changed instantly. A blistering display of strokes saw him retire 53* off 22 balls (2 x 4 & 6 x6), helping to get us to 127-4.
At the interval, we knew we would have to bowl and field well to win. Rochdale batters took the attack to our bowlers and whilst Seb changed things up as much as he could, the runs still flowed.
Highlights amongst some powerful batting were Abby (4-0-30-1), Oli (4-0-32-2) and Lewie (4-0-19-0). Outstanding catch at short extra cover by Jack.
After the Rochdale big hitters, some sensible batting got them to the target with 3 overs to spare.
Afterwards the team as a whole had the feeling we had not brought our A game. Better luck next time.
