JUNIOR ROUND UP – 25 July 2022
U18s v Crompton (A) – “Rammy win streak continues”
Crompton didn’t fancy the searing heat for bowling and quickly chose to bat at the toss.
Brilliant opening spells from Toby Ash and Abby saw off their openers cheaply and when Oli trapped their No.3 in front, Crompton were struggling on 23-3. The middle order rallied and Crompton set us 86 to win, which looked well below par.
Pick of the figures:
Abby Bingham 4-1-11-4
Fred Johnston 4-0-16-2
Only quick wickets would save Crompton and Seb was unlucky to play onto his stumps.
The visiting crowd enjoying the heat wave, were comforted in Rammy having plenty of batting to come. Toby Ash (27) shored-up the innings at a run a ball. However, some good bowling and a bit of dodgy running brought regular wickets. With 6 wickets down we still needed 22 albeit at a comfortable run rate. Imogen (7*) and Oli (18*) withstood the sledging and the fading light in what was turning into a tense finish. But Crompton’s change bowlers gave some relief and with 9 balls to spare, Oli despatched one to cow corner boundary to win the game.
Definitely closer than it should have been but another great game of cricket. This Rammy team know how to entertain.

U18s v Littleborogh (A) – ““Boro inflict heavy defeat to end our win streak”
On a drizzly night Seb won the toss and chose to bat in the best light. Sadly he fell caught behind in the first over and more tight bowling pegged our scoring back to just 16-4 off the first 11 overs. With a chance to change the momentum, Jack (35) dominated the change bowlers at a run a ball. Other batters hung in as best they could and we did well to get the score to 72 off our 20 overs. Some good running between the wickets including a 5 all-run!
At least we had something to bowl at, but we needed early wickets and Toby Ash was unlucky not to get a few, with just 7 runs (mostly edges) off his 4 overs opening spell.
In the end Littleborough were easy winners by 8 wickets with 6 overs to spare.
Littleborough were simply better than us on the night but we look forward to the return game at Acre Bottom.
