Ramsbottom v Littleborough U18s – 12th August 2022
LCC 132-2 (20 overs) RCC 113-7 (20 overs)
“The one that got away”
To accommodate preparations for the Worsley Cup Final our home fixture v Littleborough was moved to Hare Hill on another gorgeous Friday evening. Boro won the toss and decided to bat with a big crowd on. It has to be said, Littleborough is one of the best grounds in the league.
Word came through that Boro had already played at Rochdale earlier that day so our team were fresh and ready to overturn our defeat earlier in the season.
Toby Ash continued his fine opening bowling form (4-0-16-0) without any luck. When the returning Tom Ireland (4-0-25-1) claimed their dangerous opener in the 4th over we sensed a chance. Oli (4-0-27-1) and George L (4-0-26-0) backed up a good all round bowling performance with Lewie keeping the runs down as well (4-0-27-0).
Although we had not taken many wickets, at the interval the team were confident we could chase it down.
Skipper Seb (29, 3x4s, 1×6) made a fast start but we struggled to score in the middle overs as wickets fell regularly. With the run rate at more than 2-a-ball, Isaac T (22*) and George L (17*) ran well and never gave up the chase putting on an unbeaten partnership of 42. But sadly it was too big a mountain to climb.
More lessons learned for our young team, with thanks to Fred and Harry C for fielding so well in the heat.
Great sportsmanship and spirit of cricket from the Littleborough team. A good team to model ourselves on.
