With Tom Parton ‘sunning himself’ in Australia; we now turn our attention to the player who has the unenviable task of replacing him as the new First XI wicketkeeper. Harry Caton is a young man who has played two seasons at East Lancs, gaining rave reviews for his glove-work and his gritty batting culminating in winning the award for most victims in Division 2 last season.

Obviously other Clubs were interested in you. What was it that made you choose Ramsbottom? Ramsbottom is a fantastic club with a great set up in place as well as a fantastic group of lads that will be extremely competitive in all competitions this year. Also opportunities to work with professionals like Daryn Smit don’t come around very often, so it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

Have you set yourself any targets for the season ahead? I would love to top the victims table this year and I am confident this can be achieved with the bowling attack we have.

Which team(s) are you looking forward to Playing against this season? I think each team will have their own strengths so I’m looking forward to every game I’ll play this season!

Tips for honours in 2020? In Division 2 I’m tipping East Lancs: they have singed a couple of new players and look a good outfit. For the T20, Worsley Cup and 1st division: I’m backing ourselves to be very competitive with the squad we have.

Thoughts on this year’s ‘Professional’ announcements? I’m buzzing to start working with Daryn: he’s a model professional and an outstanding player. He is capable of single-handedly winning games and can’t I wait to learn from him this year!

Top 3 favourite grounds in the LL? My top 3 Lancashire league grounds would have to be Todmorden, Ramsbottom, and East Lancs

Who is your all time cricket hero? My all-time cricketing hero would have to be Andrew Flintoff

Hardest opponent you have played against? The hardest opponent I have played against is a young lad I played against in Tobago called Joshua James, he is currently playing for the West Indies under 19s. He has so much talent it was nearly impossible to get him out and he also bowled absolute heat!

Now the league has had a season of promotion and relegation, how do you it will affect the league moving forward?I think the split into Division 1 and 2 can only strengthen the league and make it more competitive, with strong teams in Division 2 looking to make the jump to the 1st Division. The beauty of it is that anyone can beat anyone in the Lancashire league!

Cricket superstitions? I have a small routine I always perform when I’m going out to bat and I always put my right pad on before my left pad.
