A positive weekend for the 1st and 2nd teams in weather affected matches whilst the 3rd team match was postponed and will be rearranged.
The 1st team grabbed a tie in an exciting finish at Rochdale. Batting first we found ourselves struggling at 49 for 6 on a difficult wicket. We eventually made it to 143 all out thanks to excellent knocks from Bradley Fielding and skipper Thomas Parton, who was batting lower down the order due to a knock on his thumb. Brad made an aggressive 27 and Tom’s 58 (aided by a patient innings from Owen Collinge) helped us to a total we could look to defend. In reply Rochdale found runs hard to score but as the rain came, they were just ahead on the Duckworth Lewis method. That all changed with a wicket for Jack Wynn – an outstanding catch by Rehan. Rochdale were unable to score a runoff the last 2 balls of the over and with the rain now heavy the scores made the match a tie.
At Acre Bottom the second team beat Rochdale. Batting first with the 2nds made an impressive 273 for 3. Following on from last week’s batting it was Matthew Parkinson and Michael Howarth’s turns to make runs. They shared a partnership worth 191 before Parky ran out Mike for 91. At least Matt had the decency to make it to his 100, ending on 118 not out. Dale chipped in at the end with more variations of the sweep shot than you can imagine. In reply Rochdale made a good start with the first wicket falling at 82. As the run rate creeped up the wickets began to fall, and they were on 128 for 6 when the weather brought an early finish. In what is becoming a trend the spin twins Dale and Christopher both took 3 wickets.
