Another wet weekend affecting the games. For the third time the 2nd team cup game at Enfield was abandoned. No definitive news yet but there is a chance of a 4th attempt this weekend. Friday’s T20 match was also rained off after just 12 overs.

The 1st team were again involved in a Duckworth Lewis match on Sunday. Batting first we initially found runs hard to come by due to some excellent bowling by Clitheroe. At 46 for 3 our pro, George joined Si Hanson in what became one of two vital partnerships. They took us to 91 for 4 when George was the victim of a spectacular run out. Si was out shortly afterwards for 36 bringing together the second important partnership of Bradley Fielding and his Dad, Jonathan Fielding on Father’s Day. We knew there would be fewer quick signals and turning 2s into 3s, but Bradley carried on his recent T20 form with an excellent 38. With Trigger’s 21 we ended up on a competitive 174 all out.  For the Clitheroe reply our bowlers kept it very tight and made early inroads with Trigger picking up 3 wickets including the Clitheroe pro. When the rain arrived, Clitheroe were on 47 for 5. No further play was possible and with a D/L target of 101 the 1st team took a welcome 10 points to move them up to 3rd in the table.

The 2nd team started their match, making it to 112 for 3 before rain ended play. Michael Howarth making 44 and Jonathan Dack 50. Both sides took away 3 points.

Sunday 23/06/19 1st XI v Todmorden 1pm

The 1st team are at home this weekend and welcome Todmorden to Acre Bottom. In 2018 the fixture was also at home and we picked up 10 points in a 4-wicket win. Todmorden made 139 for 8 with their pro Chris Schofield top scoring with 58 not out. The pick of the bowlers was Jonathan Fielding with 5 for 38. We reached out target with 6 wickets down thanks in the main to 59 from JJ Fielding.  Todmorden’s pro this season is Sri Lankan Alankara Asanka.   He is a right arm off break bowler and right-hand bat. He has just over 3,000 first class runs and 328 wickets. Todmorden are currently 7th having won 5 of their 9 matches, just 10 points behind us.

Sunday 23/06/19  Todmorden v 2nd XI 1pm

The 2nd team travel to Todmorden on Sunday. If you have not been to Tod take my word for it, it’s a lovely ground and setting and well worth the drive. Last season we lost at Centre Vale after scoring 185 for 7. The now retired Robert Read scored 48 and Benjamin Wilkinson 55.  Todmorden knocked off the runs for the loss of 7 wickets with the wickets spread around. Centre Vale is just through the centre of town, the post code is OL14 7BS and its a 30-minute drive from Ramsbottom.
