Very pleased to see both the 1st and 2nd teams continue their winning starts to their league campaigns, both picked up another 12 points last weekend. Thanks to Storm Hannah, the 3rd XI game against Great Harwood was postponed and will be rearranged for later in the season.
1st XI Team Sunday 5th May
Home v Accrington 1pm
We welcome Accrington to Acre Bottom this weekend. In the 2018 season league competition, we only played them once – away in September when we secured 12 points. That day we saw skipper Tom Parton score a brilliant 103 supported by 32 from Si Hanson and 20s from our sub pro Daryn Smit and Martin Cropper in our total of 235 for 4. Accrington were then bowled out for 170 with veteran spinner Jon Fielding taking 4 expensive wickets for 73 and Si Hanson making it a good all-round performance with 3 for 11.
The Accrington pro for 2019 is the former Lancashire player Karl Brown. Karl is a right handed bat who bowls right arm medium pace. Karl made just over 3,500 runs in his first-class career, averaging 26.65 with 2 centuries and 22 50s.
Daryn Smit is again our sub pro – the last of his 3 matches as George Linde arrives next week and will make his debut at Church on 12 May.

Last season the 2nd team beat Accrington and took the full 12 points. Batting first Ramsbottom scored 135 all out with extras top scoring with 32 (all wides!) with Nick Round, Sam Price and Jack Thomond all chipping in with 20s. Accrington were then bowled out for 73 with the spin twins Chris Round and Dale Gabriel taking 3 and 4 wickets respectively. For anyone fancying a trip to Accy it’s about a 25 mins drive – use BB5 5HD for sat nav.

3rd XI – Saturday 4th May v Lowerhouse (A)
– Monday 6th May v Church (A)
Our 3rd team have two fixtures this weekend. Both are away and I am sure the team would appreciate any travelling support. On Saturday they are at Liverpool Road to take on Lowerhouse with a journey to Church on Bank Holiday Monday. We did not play either team under last season’s format – Lowerhouse finished 5th in Pool A with just 3 wins in their 10 games. Church were in the same Pool and ended up in 2nd place with 5 wins behind Rochdale who dominated the Pool. Lowerhouse Cricket Club is about 20 mins from Ramsbottom on Liverpool Road (BB12 6LP). Church Cricket Club is a similar time drive on Blackburn Road (BB5 4LP)
