A great weekend for the club with 4 wins from 4 matches bringing a few smiles back to the faces of the RCC faithful. 

The first of those wins came last Friday by 27 runs in the T20 versus Crompton.  Batting first we made 138 for 9 built around Alexander Olpin’s 46 from 41 balls at the top of the order. Crompton were restricted to 117 for 7 after 20 overs – featuring the remarkable bowling figures from Daniel Pyke of 4 overs 4 for 5. 

On Saturday the 2nd team moved into the next round of the Telegraph Cup competition with a comprehensive win against Enfield. The 2nds made 357 for 4 from their 50 overs. Dale Gabriel starring with 150 not out from just 80 balls including 5 sixes. Not forgetting Nicholas Rond’s second century of the season, making 111. Dale and Nicholas shared a stand of 196 runs. Enfield were dismissed for 128 with 3 wickets apiece for Christopher Round and Brad Wilson.

Sunday saw the 1st and 2nd teams taking on Todmorden in the league. The 1st team won a tense low scoring match at Acre Bottom. Todmorden opted to bat first and scored 119 all out with Matthew Burdaky and Jonathan Fielding both taking 3 wickets.  The total was reached for the loss of 8 wickets – professional George Linde scoring 43, ably supported by Si Hanson with 23. Alexander Olpin and Jack Wynn keeping their heads at the end to win the game and take 12 points.

Up at Todmorden the 2nd team secured a 7-wicket win and picked up 10 points. Tod opted to bat first, and Daniel Pyke was in the wickets again with 3 for 26 and Owen Collinge took 3 for 57. The 2nd team were set 164 to win and thanks to Matthew Parkinson’s explosive 74 from just 35 balls reached their target with plenty of overs to spare. Nicholas Round anchoring the innings with 35 and Michael Howarth and Samuel Price seeing us home.

T20 Friday 28/06/2019 1st XI v Walsden Away 6:15 pm

On Friday we travel to Walsden for the final group game. The winner of the match will secure a home quarter final tie. The match starts at 6:15 pm. Walsden is a 30-minute drive from Rammy – the post code is OL14 7SX

Sunday 30/06/19 1st XI v Lowerhouse Away 1pm 

The 1st team travel to play rivals Lowerhouse on Sunday. Lowerhouse are 5th in the table with 6 wins, just 5 point behind us. We only played one league match under last season’s format and we came away from Liverpool Road with a 15-run win. We scored 220 for 7 batting first. Jonathan Fielding top scored that day with 73 and Robert Read made 46. Lowerhouse were bowled out for 205 thanks to a flurry of late wickets. Jonathan Fielding, Matthew Burdaky and last season’s pro Semi each claiming 3 wickets.  Lowerhouse have retained Ockert Erasmus as their pro. A very familiar figure in the league with the South African scoring over 500 runs from just 10 matches last season with an average of 73.57. He also claimed 20 wickets at 12.90.

Lowerhouse’s ground is on Liverpool Road in Lowerhouse, Burnley. It’s a 20-minute drive using post code BB12 6LP.

Sunday 30/06/19 2nd XI v Colne Home 1pm 

The 2nd team are at home on Sunday and take on Colne in the league. Colne are 7th in the table with 4 wins from their 10 matches. Last season’s fixture was also at Acre Bottom and we picked up 12 points that day. Batting first we scored 213 for 4 – Michael Howarth top scoring with 67 not out with 40 from Alexander Olpin and 42 from Samuel Price. Colne were then bowled out for 126 with Andrew Whittle taking 5 for 35.
