A great weekend for all the senior teams, which saw the 3rds lead the way with 2 wins and 24 pts. Whilst the 1st and 2nd teams beat their respective Accrington opponents with another 12 pts for the 1st team and 10 for the 2nd team. Fingers crossed the winning start to the season carries on this weekend with all 3 teams in action again.

1st XI Sunday 12/05/19 Away v Church 1pm –

On Sunday the 1st team travel to take on Church & Oswaldtwistle at Blackburn Road. Last season’s fixture was rearranged from its scheduled April date and played in August. That day we picked up 12 points with an 8-wicket win.   Church won the toss and opted to bat. They were bowled out for 128 with Werner Coetsee and Jon Fielding taking 3 wickets apiece. We knocked off the runs losing only 2 wickets with an excellent 67 not out from JJ and 35 from Werner Coetsee. The Church paid man this season is Dayyaan Galiem. South African Dayyaan is a 22-year-old all-rounder who bats right handed and a right arm medium fact bowler. He plays for Western province and has represented South Africa at under 19 level. Dayyaan has 1 first class century to his name, averaging 41 in 34 innings and has 60 wickets at 27.46.  George Linde makes his debut for us. George is a batting all-rounder who bats left handed and bowls orthodox slow left arm spin. I am sure we will all make him feel very welcome at Ramsbottom.

For the supporters planning a trip to Church the post code is BB5 4LP and should be a 20-minute drive from the club.

2nd XI Sunday 12th May 2019 1pm Home v Rishton

For old timers like me, this is a novel experience: the 1st and 2nd teams playing league matches against different opposition! The 2nd team face Rishton at home on Sunday. Last season the 2nds travelled to Rishton in May and lost by 48 runs. Rishton were put in to bat and scored 221 for 7 despite Alex Olpin and Jack Thomand taking 3 wickets each. Rammy were then bowled out for 173 with 38 from Nick Round and Jack Thomand making it a useful all-round performance with 36.

3rd XI – Saturday 11th May Home v Crompton (H)

Following on from a successful weekend the 3rd team take on Crompton at home on Saturday. Last season at Acre Bottom it was a low scoring affair with Crompton making 134 all out. Chris Round took 5 wickets in 8 overs including 7 maidens for only 2 runs! Owen Collinge also had 3 for 15 in his 8 overs. In reply Rammy were bowled out for 74 with only Ben Wilkinson and Nick Round (and extras) making it to double figures. In the return fixture at Crompton the 3rds won by 47 runs after scoring 152 for 9 in their 40 overs. Chris Round top scored with 43 and John Fox surprisingly made 26 in just 32 balls. Crompton were then bowled out for 105 with Chris Round taking 3 for 26 in an impressive all-round performance.
