This weekend the 1st team will play Norden at Acre Bottom and the 2nd XI travel to Norden to play their second team.
Mixed fortunes on the field for the Club this weekend
Last Saturday the 1st team were away at Darwen in the league and fell to a 98 run defeat. Darwen won the toss, batted first and posted 243 for 5 with opener Ammer Mirza scoring 79. In reply we were bowled out for 145 in just under 40 overs, with scores in the 20s for skipper Thomas Parton, Rehan Udwadia and Alexander Olpin. We are now 6th in the table on 79 points having won 6 of our 12 league matches.
Sunday saw a trip to Todmorden in the quarter final of the Worsley Cup. On a good batting wicket we again lost the toss and the home side opted to bat. Todmorden then set us 251 to win to move into the semi-finals. Todmorden’s pro, Asanka Silva batted though for 105 not out and Chris Scofield made 68. As with the day before the 1st team found it hard to chase down a 200+ score and we were bowled out for 155. Rehan Udwadia made 53 not out.
In sharp contrast the 2nd team had a winning weekend. In the reverse fixture on Saturday the 2nd team secured an 8 wicket win and 12 points. Darwen were bowled out for 90 with skipper Dale Gabriel taking 6 for 19 from just under 10 overs. We knocked off the runs in just 16 overs with Nicholas Round making 24 and Dale capping a good all-round performance with 30 not out from 22 balls. We are third in the table on 97 points with 8 wins from our 12 matches. Clitheroe are top on 109 points.
Sunday was the semi-final of the Junior Cup at Lowerhouse. After losing the toss Lowerhouse 2nds set us a target of 165. Henry Doyle starred in the field with figures of 3 for 35 from 10 overs plus a run out. A place in the final was secured by a 4 wicket victory in a tense and hard fought game. Dale made an important 52 not out and Henry put in an excellent all-round performance with a crucial 23 runs. Jake Walker hit the winning runs with a big six over midwicket.
