Match Report Ramsbottom 2nd XI v Todmorden 2nd XI 2 May 2021
RCC 2s 250 for 2 (45 overs) TCC 2s 150 all out (44.2 overs)
The 2nd team registered their second league win of the season with an impressive performance at Acre Bottom v Todmorden. On another cold and windy day Todmorden won the toss and elected to field.
After a steady start Toby Ashworth was bowled to leave us 30 for 1. The experienced Michael Howarth joined Alex Olpin at the wicket. The pair batted well, punishing the bad balls and keeping the total ticking with some excellent running between the wickets. Their partnership was eventually broken after a stand of 174 when Michael Howarth was caught at point for 83 off 106 balls.

Samuel Price then joined Alex for the last few overs and helped us to reach a total of 250 for 2 from 45 overs. Alex carried his bat to end with a brilliant 127 not out off 149 balls with fourteen 4s and one 6 off the last ball of the innings. T Baker ending with figures of 2 for 64.
Todmorden’s reply started slowly mainly due to some accurate bowling by Owen Collinge and Ryan Storey. Both were unlucky not to take a wicket. The break though came with a change of bowling when Janine’s son, Tom bowled Averton for 10 leaving Todmorden on 40 for 1. As the overs ticked over it looked increasingly unlikely that Todmorden would reach their target and become more a question of whether we could earn more points by taking wickets.

Captain Jonathan Dack brought on Chris Round who took his first two wickets by bowling Whittaker for 21 and Ali for 6. Jack Thomond then bowled the other Tod opener Garland for 36 leaving the score on 98 for 4. Dack then went for spin at both ends with Ed Lee bowling his first spell of the season. Wickets then began to fall more regularly and we secured the full 12 points in the last over. Ed Lee ended up with figures of 2 for 24 off 6 overs with Chris Round the standout bowler with 6 for 23 off 9.2 overs.
A really positive all-round performance by the 2s ahead of a tough double header next week with matches against Lowerhouse and Walsden.
