Match Report – 3rd Team v Walsden 3rds 24 April 2021 by Phil Croft

Our developing Ramsbottom CC 3rd XI travelled away for the third week in a row, this time over Clough Foot and into Yorkshire for the Group C league clash with Walsden.

Winning the toss on a good pitch Rammy Captain Brad Wilson had no hesitation in opting to bat. As expected, the opening pair faired well against the seam and spin attack putting on 76 for the first wicket before Toby Ashworth fell (16). The Rammy line up sadly failed to capitalise on the good start but Brad pushed onto 89 falling short of a deserved century, being selflessly stumped trying to move the score along. Tom Ireland wagged the tail with a fine 37 not out before we were all out for 191. Some useful runs from Oliver Croft (14) and debutant Isaac Turner (15) gave the Rammy lads some hope at the interval.

Our opening bowers Tom Ireland and Toby Ashworth kept a lid on things again with just 17 runs off the first 10 overs. 1st change Oliver Croft bagged their opener helped by Phil Croft clutching onto a high ball at cover. Brad took their other opener caught behind by Jack Hinchliffe but the score had moved on to 93-2 after 21 overs. The Walsden batsmen were patient and experienced enough on their home turf to know that runs would come quickly if they stuck around. Eventually reaching the target without further loss and 8 overs to spare.
Well done to Walsden CC and thanks for their hospitality on a great day out in the sunshine.
