Ramsbottom started their 20/20 campaign with a comfortable win over local rivals Haslingden.
Rams start T20 in Style
After losing the toss the Rams were asked to field first and soon wickets began to tumble on a surface that offered the bowlers some assistance. With the exception of the Haslingden opener – Hunsley, the visiting batsmen tried to play aggressively which allowed Ramsbottom to capitalise. The Ramsbottom bowling was like the curates egg – good in parts, but when they got it right the Hassy batsmen could not cope resulting in a below par score of 101. Dan Pyke was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 9 off 4 overs, he was ably supported by Matthew Burdaky (2 for 17) and the home Professional – George Linde (2 for 19).
Although 101 was a relatively small target it could have proved troublesome.
When the first over came to an end with JJ Fielding run out and no runs on the board some spectators felt a little bit concerned. They should not have been, George Linde came to the wicket and soon made his intention clear; that attack was the best form of defence. His stay at the crease only lasted 19 balls but in that time he accumulated 42 runs and along with skipper Tom Parton who contributed 17, put us well on the road to victory. Rehan Udwadia and Simon Hanson finished the job in style with scores of 24 and 16 not out respectively, hitting the winning runs in the 13th over.
We now play Littleborough away on Friday evening.
