With the forecasters getting the weather right it looked like there would be little chance of getting this game underway. However the umpires and the captains were prepared to wait and an agreement was eventually reached to start a reduced game of 34 overs per side.

With water having got under the covers it was inevitable, despite the best efforts to dry the wicket, that the toss would be a vital factor. Unfortunately for the Rams Harry called wrong and the Crompton skipper asked us to take first knock. Our fears were confirmed when JJ got hit on the helmet in the first over and batting became a battle of survival against Crmpton’s pacy opening pair of Good and King. Wickets fell at regular intervals reducing us to 21 for 4 before Harry and Joe dug in doubling the score before the former was bowled. Brad was the next to go at 56 before Joe and Tom started to take advantage of the change of bowling, taking the score to 80 before thunder took the players off the field for the statutory 30 minutes.

Some 20 minutes later the heavens opened and appeared to have washed the day out, so much so that your author left the ground with Trig and drove back home in some of the worst conditions ever.

It was therefore amazing to find out that Crompton were able to get back on the ground chasing a target of 81 off 20 overs. Only four overs were played before the rains came again with the score on 16 for 1 and a no result was confirmed.

Man of the Match – not awarded.
