The day after thrashing Colne by 9 wickets in the Worsley Cup to set up a semi-final against Darwen, Colne were back again at Acre Bottom in another game of Rams against Lambs.
On a wicket that was sorely underused the previous day, Ramsbottom batted first and long to put together a score of 271-8 with high scores and league bests for Grant Thomson (78), Martin Cropper (54) and JJ Fielding (44).
A Colne side with four changes from the Worsley Cup game put up better resistance than the 63 from the previous day, to reach 127 before being bowled out. Returning favourite Andy Hakin put in a good performance with an unorthodox 23 only beaten to highest scorer by “Extras” who got worryingly close to a collection with an entertaining 31.
Simon Read with 4-26 and Jon Fielding on 4-49 were the pick of the bowlers as a sun-drenched crowd baked in the warmest day of the year.
Details of bar takings weren’t readily available but no doubt records will have tumbled as the Rammy supporters put in a remarkable effort to drink it dry.
