2020 has been very different to those in living memory and at one stage it looked unlikely that we would see any league cricket this summer. Thankfully the ECB and leagues managed to arrange conditions under which local cricket could be played. It’s brilliant to see just how much cricket we have managed to arrange around the area from the Under 9s up to the senior teams. There has to be an acknowledgement to all those involved for “making cricket happen” in 2020.

One area that the Club is delighted to see established is the introduction of the girls and womens teams. Thanks to Phil and Iain for making that happen. The Club has to be a community asset available to all, whether that’s juniors (boys and girls) through to the senior mens and womens teams or perhaps just a welcoming place to sit, watch, drink and chat with friends new and old.

This season saw a first for the Club when Sophie Ullah became the first female to represent us in senior cricket. Sophie made her debut for the 3rd team in their match v Greenmount CC on 8th August – “I really enjoyed playing my first senior game at Ramsbottom and it was even better to contribute to the team’s first win”. Sophie took 3 for 12 in her 8 overs. Further progress was made this week when Imogen Young also made her 3rd team debut, joining Sophie for our fixture at Read CC on 15th August – Sophie said “it’ll be great to have Imogen join this week” with Imogen adding “I am looking forward to the match and happy to have Sophie for company”. We are now looking forward to seeing all our cricket groups develop and enjoy the sport.

Here are Sophie and Imogen before their Super 8s match v Hightown St Marys.
