Another busy week of junior cricket saw all games played in the sunny weather and most age groups had success.
U15s “Rammyfield” travelled to East Lancs on Thu 22nd May. We won the toss and chose to bat on what looked like a good wicket. Toby Ashworth (45) and Joe B (49no) made fast progress, backed up by Edward T (51ret no) to reach 165-1 in 20 overs. The East Lancs reply looked promising but eventually they fell 17 runs short in a great game. Wickets for Lewie Pearson, Toby Ashworth, Edward T and Cameron H helped peg the run rate back to ensure the win.
U13s had mixed results with a loss against Walkden (Mon 20th) and a win against Haslingden (Wed 22nd). In the 11-a-side game, Walkden won the toss and chose to bowl. Oliver Croft (30ret no), Jack Hinchliffe (18) and Josh Simpson (10) helped us to 103-7 off 20 overs. It wasn’t quite enough for us to defend, with Walkden reaching the target with 2 overs to spare. In the 8-a-side “pairs” format, Haslingden won the toss and put us into bat. We scored 94 runs in 16 overs, with 11 from both George Lee and Bakar Ahmed, but sadly lost 6 wickets (6x-8 runs) finishing on 246. Our fielders and bowlers stepped up to the task, especially George Lee (2overs, 3wkts for 14 runs), and won the game by 17 runs.
U11s had a close game against Walshaw on Weds 22nd, which could have gone either way. A great effort by Sonny Myers (14) and Evie Bennett (11) to get us so close, Lucas Moore (11) also batting well! Dylan Kenny bowled so well (2 overs for just 2 runs with his first wicket for Rammy!) as did Evie (also 2 overs conceding just 2 runs)! We eventually lost by 8 runs, Walshaw 255 vs Rammy 247.
U9s Monday results.
1st game: Greenmount CC (B) 269/4 Ramsbottom 233/6
2nd game: Ramsbottom 285 played Walshaw 230/2
Solid performances from everyone in the squad! Well done young Rams!
Some of our U13s and U11s Juniors also represented Bury District successfully this week, with double victories against St Helens & West Lancs District. At U13s, Oliver Croft scored 25 in a 90 run victory. Jack Hinchliffe was also in the team and Harry Bradley gave great squad support, whilst resting a minor injury. At U11s, Harry Collinge and Louis Almond-Read represented their teams admirably.
