On reflection – how was the 2018 season for RCC ?

I think everyone can be pleased with what we achieved last year.

Improving on the 2017 league position, securing top division cricket and T20 finals day, despite the retirement of Simon Read at the beginning of 5e season, which would’ve proved a major loss to any side. Matt Burdaky stepped up to the plate to lead the line and was ably supported all round by the ever young trigger. We also continued to develop our own, and backed in a number of young guys throughout the season. It would’ve been nice to finish with some silverware, but it wasn’t to be.

What have you been doing over the winter to keep active?

I’ve been dragged down to CrossFit regularly by you Dalbs, alongside travelling the length of the country supporting Leeds United, which keeps anyone’s heart rate active enough !

How was winter nets for the boys?

As good as can be, everyone was itching to be outside !

What work has been done both on and off the field in the winter months at RCC?

This is the unseen side to any club, especially at RCC where those involved on a cricketing front have worked tirelessly on an administrative front to prepare us for the season, along with a ground force day which saw 20+ players give the ground a lick of paint, repair/ upgrade the back nets and prepare the cages.

Moving into the 2019 season, this will be your third year at the helm- what are your aspirations both personally and as a team ?

As club captain, team aspirations and personal aspirations closely align, so to ensure all 3 senior sides are successful and as a club we continue to improve on the field. I personally want to ensure it’s an enjoyable place to play cricket and we have a good chance of picking up some silverware along the way.

Which Professional do you think will be the stand out paid man in 2019 ?

George Linde, obviously! Otherwise we wouldn’t have signed him !

Which teams do you enjoy playing against the most and why ?

In most recent times we’ve has some great games against Lowerhouse , usually tight and in front of healthy crowds at Liverpool Road.

Favourite ground and why?

Away from Acre Bottom, it has to be Todmorden, lovely setting and always brings back memories of a special Worsley Cup semi final in 2011.

Amateur players  to watch this season ?

JJ Fielding, the little master is on for a big year I have no doubt, as long as he listens to his opening partner and not his granddad Brian! Hopefully with Rehan Udwadi around all season too, he can build on some impressive performances last year with bat and ball, having spent time in India over winter.

Finally your tips ;
